Dream Girl New Face 2011 - Official Sponsor O'sullivan

A model’s life isn’t all about glamour and beauty; luscious hair extensions, world-class photographers, globe-trotting. In fact, you better be prepared for some hard work.

To celebrate the launch of Dream Girl’s New Face Model Competition 2011 we chat to our sponsor O’Sullivan Concept Salons to give a sneak preview into the life of a model in the hair world.

Martin O’Sullivan is Art Director at O’Sullivan Concept Salons. It is his job to keep on top of the new trends, train the models up, manage the photoshoots and the promo work that has appeared in magazines like Tatler, Hair Flair and the national glossies.

He is excited by the competition.

“This is an incredible opportunity for someone to get a foot in the door,” he says.

DreamGirl is a big company, it’s a fantastic chance to get a feel for what the world of modelling is about”.

But, he doesn’t want people to think it’s all about getting pampered.

“Yes, it is wonderful having your hair done and having people tell you how fabulous you look but my one word of advice for photoshoots? Be patient”.

“It can be a really long day”.

As well, Martin says he’d always tell young models to listen.

“There’s a reason why these people are at the top of the profession,. They know something. Be ready to listen and learn and you’ll be coming into the industry with the right attitude”.

A key part of Martin’s role is to identify new trends coming through. So what’s hot right now?

“Bobs” he says. Like Cheryl Cole’s last year and the almost military, rigid and strong look of Jessie J. Although, he muses, the singer has been spotted with a much softer look recently. “Hair extensions”, he reveals.
