Keep your hair healthy until spring

16 Nov

Every season of the year your hair is your crowning glory.

Yet once it starts to get cold, frosty and wintry, it needs a little extra help to stay luscious and beautiful.

Whether you use 100% human hair extensions, a human hair wig from our Chic Collection, or just opt for Clip’N Go Hair extensions to revamp your style in minutes, they’re all at risk from the weather. Hair can go limp and dry thanks to the wind and frost. It can go static and frizzy, which isn’t helped by having the heating on all day.

One option is to hide your hair under a hat until April.

This isn’t really practical though and it is party season after all.

Here are Dream Girl’s tips for keeping your hair shiny, healthy and pretty through until spring.

  1. Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of water. This isn’t only good for your hair it’s great for your skin which can get chapped in cold weather. If it is lacking in moisture hair will get dry and brittle. This means it is more prone to breakage, causing split ends. If you have hair extensions this means they might not last as long as you have hoped. You can get extra help to keep hair plump and hydrated by using conditioner specially designed for hair extensions. Leave conditioner in hair for an extra few minutes, wrapped in a warm towel to add extra hydration.

  1. Never go out with wet hair

This is really a no, no throughout the year but particularly during winter. Once temperatures drop if you go out with damp hair you might find that water particles will freeze. Frozen strands means split ends. A little bit of serum will strengthen the ends of hair and protect it from cold weather.

  1. Reduce the amount of heat you use on your hair

In all honesty, Dream Girl doesn’t advocate using any heat products on hair extensions. Human hair is like wax. When it gets host it softens and changes shape. Couple this will pulling from brushing and styling and you can see why breakage occurs. However we’re also practical and we know that you don’t always have time to let hair dry naturally. If you do have to use heat make sure it’s a low setting and keep the hair dryer at a distance from the hair itself. Never use hair straighteners on hair extensions.

  1. Keep to a healthy diet

What you put into your body is reflected on the outside. It can be tempting to just scoff on chocolates and comfort foods in the dark and cold winter months. This means hair and skin will be dull and limp. To keep it healthy and shiny stay on a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg.

  1. Experiment with up-dos

An up-do reduces the amount of hair exposed to cold and wintry weather, especially fragile tips. It’s a good thing, then, that up-dos are so in fashion. Twist hair extensions into a messy bun, a braid or a sleek chignon for a look that protects hair and is bang on trend.
