The best hairstyles of 2016

23 Dec

Whenever we get to the end of the year we start to reflect on the twelve months that have just passed. And in hair terms, well, 2016 was a bit of a strange one.

Hair wasn’t too tidy, but wasn’t too scruffy. It didn’t only need to be long or short. Natural hair made a comeback but hair extensions were as popular as ever.

Dream Girl chooses our favourite styles of the past year.

Feathered ends

Ideal for anyone with long hair who wants to add a little texture. Last seen in the 90s but making a comeback via Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. These feathered ends added plenty of volume and bounce. If you wear hair extensions is best to ask your stylist to do this once you’ve had your hair extensions fitted. The best way to style them would be with a spritz of volumising spray and a huge round brush. Blow dry away from the face instead of towards it.

Beachy waves

Summer or winter, long hair or short, beachy waves were definitely one of the key looks for 2016. Easily recreated without heat using one inch sections of hair twisted and then pinned, before unfurling and adding spray. A great style that’s sure to stay around well into 2017.

Easy bedhead style

If hair was too glossy in 2016 it didn’t look quite right. Instead, bedhead was the most in demand style around. Dry shampoo, scrunching and combing hair with your fingers is the best way to recreate this style.

The return of the side parting

If there’s anything we learnt this year it’s that the easiest way to glam up a look is to change the parting. Middle was quite edgy, side added glamour. Tuck you hair behind your ear and use wax to add texture to the ends and you’re ready to go.

Mermaid hair

In 2016, when you wanted to go long you had to go super-long. Rihanna’s mermaid curls were super long and showed that this year was one obsessed with texture. Easily to get yourself with Dream Girl’s hair extensions in waves and curls. Choose from over 80 shades to get a colour that closely matches your own.
